Our Real Ales

There are currently some 21 beers available from Springhead Brewery as of 2011.  All our beers are based on traditional craft brews and  contain only 100% natural ingredients such as floor roasted barley malts, top quality Herefordshire whole hops or imported speciality whole hops, Nottingham Ale yeast and crystal clear water.

Some of the beers are available all year round, and these are highlighted accordingly. The others are produced one per month throughout the year.

There are also a few recipes which are brewed to order, or for special events.  This include Willy's Wheatbeer 5% (chosen by David Aucott on behalf of Wetherspoons as his favourite beer of the March 2012 beer festival and thought by David to be the finest wheat beer he had enjoyed in many a year)., and The Apostles' Ale at 8%. Springhead also produces from time to time interesting variations of our tried and tested recipes such as aniseed porter, a Christmas beer with dates and figs, and a cherry porter.

In 2010, we created Robin Hood, a 4% chestnut-coloured traditional bitter and to complement Robin, Maid Marian, a 4.5% pale golden beer brewed with fresh oranges..  Both have proved so popular that they have become established all year round beers and were recently bottled for the first time and selected by Asda, and Waitrose to go into the Midlands stores.

We had a roaring success with The Bees Knees when it was a seasonal beer in 2011 and it has been promoted to the core range.  It is a fabulously aromatic 3.9% beer, brewed with honey to provide a lovely mellow flavour before the palate is assailed by the aromatic lemony hops!

Springhead's craft brewers enjoy the challenge of creating new brews as well as brewing the seasonal beers. The characteristic of all Springhead beers is that they are fermented using Nottingham Ale yeast so staying true to our local brewing tradition.
