Our New Seasonal Special

We’re very happy to have our latest seasonal special Bees Knees available from this week and back on the bars! Bees Knees is always a real favourite, golden in colour, and made with local wildflower honey, which at 3.9% is perfect for the glimpse of Spring that we’ve been seeing over the last few days!

As always with our seasonal specials, stocks are limited and they often sell out quickly, so let your landlords know quickly if you’d like to try it in their bars!

New Addition to our Team!

We are very pleased to announce that we have a new key member of our team joining the Springhead family from Monday! A huge welcome to Bob Phaff, who is to be our new Production Manager, and will be working alongside our Head Brewer, Keir, in steering the ship at the Springhead basecamp and keeping things running smoothly!

Bob comes to us with a wealth of experience in other top quality breweries, including most recently working at True North Brewery as their Head Brewer. He also brings with him experience from St. Andrew’s Brewing Company, Welbeck Abbey Brewery, Stancill Brewery, Black Iris Brewery, Black Jack Brewery, Runnaway Brewery and Twisted Barrel Brewery, which we very much look forward to using to develop our own beers and business!

Drop O’ The Black Stuff in SIBA National Finals!

Following our GOLD MEDAL in the SIBA Independent Beer Awards, Midlands Region competition, in the Standard Mild and Brown Ales category this year, we are very excited to have our delicious Drop O’ The Black Stuff taking part in the national finals this week.

The competition is taking place at the SIBA Beer X conference, taking place in Sheffield this week - fingers, toes, and everything else crossed for another award at the national level!

Hop Merchant Tap Takeover Week

One for our Nottingham drinkers - we're very excited to be doing a TAP TAKEOVER week at The Hop Merchant, on Parliament Street, in Nottingham, from Monday 27th of March to the 2nd of April. This should be an excellent week, and a great opportunity to try a range of our beers, pick up some free prizes, and meet our team on the MEET THE BREWER night on Wednesday 29th of March!

For those of you who haven't been to The Hop Merchant before, it’s a great pub, and a link to their Facebook page is below. We hope to see you there!

Center Parks Article

Center Parks have produced a lovely feature on Springhead for the Spring issue of their magazine this month, as one of their local suppliers, including an interview with our Managing Director, Helen, and a photoshoot at the brewery. As well as in their magazine, the full article will be up on our website soon (, and they will also be shooting a short video at our brewery next week! A big thanks to Cathy at Center Parks for organising everything, and for their kind words!

Robin Hood Joins Meg in Tescos!

As well as Roaring Meg, our lovely traditional hoppy chestnut bitter, Robin Hood, is now also available in 500ml bottles in Tesco stores across the midlands. If you spot it on the shelves, please send us in a pic, and let us know what you think to the beer!

National Promotions for Left Lion and Roaring Meg

We’re very happy to announce that our beers will be reaching new drinkers across the country from the end of this month, as Roaring Meg is on a national promotion with Wetherspoon’s for the next two months, meaning any Wetherspoon’s pub is able to order it across the country during this period. So if you live further afield and would love to try Meg, this is a great opportunity – just ask your local Wetherspoon’s landlord! Left Lion is also reaching far and wide over April and May, with a national promotion from Molson Coors meaning it will also be popping up across the country. Let us know where you spot them, and we’ll post on our social media so others drinkers can find them too!

Think that’s everything for now, so from all of the Springhead team, we hope you have a fantastic (and thoroughly beery) weekend!

Best wishes,

Outlawed selected as finalist in Champion Beer of Nottinghamshire Competition 2017
A big thanks to the organisers and judges of the 2017 Champion Beer of Nottinghamshire competition, who out of the 54 beers selected to take part in the competition by CAMRA, picked our lovely triple-hopped APA, Outlawed, as one of the 10 finalists in the competition. The competition took place at The Canalhouse in Nottingham, and a bit congrats to Blue Monkey, who were the overall winners of the competition with their Guerrilla Chocolate Amaretto stout!
That makes three years in a row that we’ve made it to the final stages of the competition, so maybe 2018 will be our year to take the top spot – fingers crossed!

July Newsletter 2016

With the days getting sunnier and the pubs packed with drinkers making the most of the better weather, we’re really pleased to report that this has been the busiest quarter we have had in a long time! With our brewery running at capacity and our brew team working round the clock to keep up with orders, if this level of demand for our lovely beers continues, we’re going to be needing to put in more conditioning tanks and fermenters!
As well as the booming local trade, the current rapid pace of production in our brewhouse is also due to some pretty big orders in from several of the major pubcos. We’re currently on promotion nationally with Wetherspoons until the end of May, and also Greene King until the end of June with our flagship brew Roaring Meg, which is our classic IPA (also known as The Big Blonde!). As well as this, our beer Sweetlips is available through Punch Taverns until the end of July, and we will be supplying Molson Coors in June too, so if you happen to be in a pub that’s a part of any of the above in the next couple of months and would like to try our beers, just ask the landlord to order them in! All Wetherspoons pubs in the region are now able to take all four of our bottled beers too, so let their staff know if they’re not yet in stock in your local Wetherspoons!

The big news this month, is in introduction of two new brands to our core range. The two beers, Blind Tiger, and Left Lion, were previously known as Maid Marian and Robin Hood respectively. The decision to re-brand was made following feedback from our drinkers that the old names often caused confusion with a number of similarly named beers also available in the local area.

We’re really proud of both of the beers themselves, which have been a part of our core range since 2012 and have a strong fan-base, so we felt it was important to retain the original recipes loved by our drinkers, but that especially with the recent growth and evolution of the craft beer market, it was time that the beers were given new names and identities as distinctive and bold as the brews themselves!

Blind Tiger is a 4.5% abv. refreshing, pale golden beer, with a fruity flavour produced by adding whole oranges  to the brew, while Left Lion is a 4.0% abv. chestnut-brown traditional bitter with a good head and plenty of hops. ‘Blind Tiger’ is named after a type of illegal drinking den during in the 1920s, which evaded prohibition laws by disguising themselves as exhibition halls for ‘natural curiosities’, charging patrons a fee to see exotic creatures such as a blind tiger (reportedly a pig painted with stripes), which, surely by coincidence, included free alcohol with admission. ‘Left Lion’ takes its name from the two great art-deco stone lions in Nottingham City's Market Square, which were sculpted by Joseph Else, the left of which is traditionally known as the city’s famous meeting place.

As well as the new characters within our core range, look out for our new seasonal specials, and if you spot them, please send us a photo of them on the bar along with your feedback to our Facebook page ( – we always love to hear what you think! We currently have Willy’s Wheatbeer in stock, which is a traditional German-style wheat beer, with a delicate, almost floral aroma and an initial fruitiness leading to a long, dry, biscuity finish.

The delicious Sweetlips has also just been brewed and will be hitting the bars this week. It is a light, crisp, 4.6% abv. beer, bursting with grapefruit and mandarin orange flavours, and made with fresh citrus hops and Californian yeast.

We’re also very excited to announce that we've had one of our local buses decked out in Springhead decals, and it's now on the roads spreading the gospel seven days a week! We’re all really pleased with how it looks – let us know if you spot it on the roads, and send in your pic to our Facebook page or to  for the chance to win a free case of Roaring Meg, delivered to your door!

Plans are also coming together for our Summer Festival at the brewery site in Laneham, near Retford, North Notts, which is set to take place from the 22nd to the 24th of July. It’s shaping up to be another fantastic event for beer lovers, as well as the entire family, with a great selection of beers from across the country available, as well as live music, entertainment, family fun, and delicious locally-sourced food. We will be announcing the bands over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on our social media channels and website ( for the latest updates!

Think that's all for now - as always, a massive thanks for all your support, and we hope you enjoy the beers!
