  • The Bramley Apple Inn

alt

Lot of news from the Bramley this month, which now has the old 'Apple' restored and mounted on the front of the pub! The apple was previously up for around 20 years before being sold by auction for charity to the previous landlord of the Saracens Head Hpotel, so the locals of Southwell are over the moon to see it back in it’s rightful place!

As well as gracing the bar of the Bramley, Roaring Meg can also be found in their Steak and Ale Pie, which has fast become one of their most popular dishes definitely recommended for any Springhead fans out there! Their lovely landlady Annette has also won first prize at the Bramley Festival in the Apple Pie baking competition, which is also a firm favourite on the dessert menu, regularly selling out.

alt

On New Years Eve, the Bramley will be launching a campaign to raise £5,000 to buy a guide dog – which will of course be called 'Bramley'! Watch this space for more information on the campaign and how you can help.

Race-day packages are also currently on offer, including dinner, bed and breakfast at a special discounted rate when booked direct through the Bramley – call Phil or Annette on 01636 813675 for further details.

Sherwood Forest on the move?!

Crumball-_Rally

Bob Baume, our Northern sales manager, joined forces recently with Clough House, a public house near his home, to raise money for the Laura Crane Cancer Trust, whose patron is the comedienne Catherine Tate.

Crumball2

A team from Clough House took part in the Crumball Rally where they started out Friday 16th September in Antwerp and arrived in Southern Germany on the evening of Sunday 18th September to sample the delights of the Munich Beer festival. The rules state that the car has to cost less than £200 so the Clough House Crumballer’s bought a V reg. left hand drive Volvo V40 estate and decorated it to look like Sherwood Forest! To celebrate their send off a leaving party was held with Springhead’s Robin Hood Bitter and Maid Marion Blonde on the pumps. A hearty night was had by all!

Aug/ Sept News

The summer is traditionally a "tad" quiet for breweries so we were delighted to have an excellent August and September is looking even busier.  This has enabled us to take on more help in the brewery over the Summer (Ryan, who is doing an excellent job) and Tom, a friend of Keir's who came for a week and is now on about week 10.  Sad, but he is returning to his teaching job in the next week or so, so he will be missed.

Bramley Bitter has now been revamped and has a fantastically enhanced flavour about it, with additional mouth-feel.  Please let us know your thoughts on it.  Keir and Tricky are keen to take stock of public opinion.  We have dropped the word "Apple" and hope the public won't be thinking they are buying a cider in future!!  Bramley Bitter is selling like hotcakes into Waverley TBS and Carlsberg, so should be widely available in freehouses.

Last month's Special was Oliver's Army which has also had a makeover.  You probably didn't get a chance to sample much of it because it sold out in the first 10 days of the month!  If we have enough demand, no doubt you can persuade Tricky or Keir to brew some more!

September's beer is Newark Castle Brown, with a strong Geordie accent.  Sampled last week for the first time in a year, we are proud of this one and think you will like it too.  This will be going into the freetrade and into one or two pubcos, so you should see it around.  However, we only do one brew of each "Special" so grab a glass while you can, or wait another year!!

We are just thinking about Christmas, and all at the brewery are thinking a monthly Beer Festival might be a fun idea, beginning in December.  The plan is to use the cask washing area over a long weekend and to decorate it for the Christmas festivities.  We always have a wide range of exchanged beers from across the country, so would focus on these as well as our own beers.  Volunteers to run the bar with Andy?

The visit from Rattlejag Morris Dancers was a great success - see photos - and we are planning to hold more events like that.  Again, positive ideas appreciated.  If you know anyone who would like to perform at the brewery, we have a full licence for music and performance, so please let Andy have your ideas.
